PARKINSON'S DISEASE: What is Parkinson's Disease? Parkinson's Disease is named after an English doctor by the name of James Parkinson, who discovered the disease in 1817. Parkinson's Disease is a chronic, progressive disorder of the central nervous system. It causes the patient to be unable to move their body in a controlled manner. There is medication to treat the symptons of the disease, however there is not yet a cure.
ABOUT THE RACE: This race was first held in June 2003. It was organized by a student from Souderton Area High School as a graduation project. The student was inspired to organize the race because her grandfather has been afflicted with Parkinson's disease for over twelve years now. With the help of her family, community members, township officials and many volunteers, this race is now held annually.
